The Rivers State AC has called on all Nigerians to pray for the speedy recovery of President Musa Yar'Adua. We learnt with dismay the news of his ill health that necessitated an urgent trip to Saudi-Arabia for medical attention. At this time we enjoin all Nigerians to put aside political differences and rally around the first family at this time of vulnerability. The Rivers State AC leader Prince Tonye Princewill who is currently in Turkey as the Head of the Rivers State Economic Delegation to meet with prospective investors in that country, on receipt of the abrupt departure of the President to Saudi Arabia, directed that every bona fide member of the Rivers State AC to embark on a seven day fast starting from Thursday the 26th November, 2009, to supplicate for the full recovery of Mr. President. “I feel concerned for President Yar;Adua's health condition as it is becoming embarrassing not minding my misgiving about the slow pace of the PDP Central Government in addressing the myriad of problems confronting our country under his watch. I will want our Women Group to by their next Monday's prayer session consider the health of the President as the major issue of their prayer session as I urge all Rivers State AC genuine members to fast and pray for the immediate full recovery of Mr. President. I so much believe in prayer as I am convinced that the God that have taken us that is Rivers State AC this far to the chagrin of many people will hear our prayer about the Health of our beloved President”, The Rivers State AC Leader concluded.

In another development, the Rivers State AC formally congratulates our Deputy Leader and the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Amaechi on inter party matters, Chief Williams Igweh on his appointment by the National Executive Council of AC as a Board Of Trustee Member (BOT). This brings to two, Rivers State AC Chieftains so honoured in recent times by the National Executive, with the initial appointment of our leader Prince Tonye Princewill.

On receipt of news of his appointment, Chief Igweh expressed appreciation and gratitude to the party machinery in the state under the able leadership of Princewill. He further stated, “Today is another milestone in my political career and I wish to pledge my continued loyalty to my Leader and the entire structure of the party as I strive to do my best in this new position”.

Finally, the party condemns with the strongest terms the resurgence of criminal activities in the State particularly the gruesome assassination of Hon. Charles Nsiegbe, the Zonal Publicity Secretary of PDP, South-South Zone and member, Board of Directors of Public Procurement and Due Process in Rivers State. As we commiserate with the Government and people of Rivers State and indeed the bereaved family over this sad development, we wish to appeal to all those involved (political or apolitical) to desist from this ungodly acts of wanton murder of fellow human beings.

Whilst we pray for the repose of the soul of Hon. Nsiegbe, we also use this opportunity to call on the Security Agencies to fish out the culprits of this despicable act and make them face the full weight of the law.

The AC is also unhappy with the resurgence of kidnapping in the city of Port Harcourt, and decry in absolute terms yesterday's abduction of two school children in Port Harcourt. We state unequivocally that we all have a stake in the growth of Rivers State and all such acts that would serve to discourage present and potential investors from the state should be collectively resisted. We urge the abductors of these little kids to release them as a matter of urgency.

Publicity Secretary, Rivers State AC.
