Abatemi-Usman expresses worry over state of Okene-Lokoja road

Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman, has expressed concern over the present state of Okene-Lokoja road, which has continued to cause serious pain to motorists and other road users plying the route.

A statement signed by Mr. Michael Jegede, his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity noted that “Worried by the pain motorists have been going through due to the terrible state of the Okene-Lokoja road, particularly, at the Nagazi/FCE Okene section of the road, the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman has drawn the attention of the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen to the situation of the road.”

The statement indicated that the Senator who spoke with the Minister from South Africa where he is currently representing Nigeria at the Pan African Parliament (PAP), requested that something very urgent should be done immediately to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians who ply the road on a daily basis, adding that “such a major road that links the northern and southern part of the country should not be left in such a bad condition that will see travellers spending hours just to pass through Okene.”

According to the statement, “The minister's response was positive as he assured Senator Abatemi-Usman that their contractor around Okene, Messrs CGC has been directed to move in today (Monday, October 13, 2014) and commence repair of the failed sections of the road.”

It further noted that “The Senator is taking the Minister by his words and he is thereby appealing to motorists and other road users in the area to be patient as the problem would soon be a thing of the past.”
