Abia 2015: Abaribe insists on zoning

By The Citizen

One of the contestants for the 2015 Abia governorship race, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South), has insisted that the zoning arrangement put in place by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state 'is irrevocable.'

The PDP caucus had after its recent meeting in Umuahia, zoned the party's ticket to Abaribe's Abia South Senatorial district in the spirit of equity and justice as the zone has yet to produce a governor. But the decision has continued to raise dusts in the polity.

Anti-zoning forces, especially those from the Ngwa divide of Abia Central Senatorial zone, have been contending that zoning formula should be based on Ukwa/ Ngwa political block, which comprises all six Ukwa/ Ngwa councils in Abia South and three of their kin in Abia Central.

Addressing journalists on Saturday at his Ohuru-Obingwa country home, Abaribe told aspirants from Abia Central to either support zoning based on senatorial districts or totally oppose the idea, describing as illogical their arguments that zoning should be extended to Ukwa/ Ngwa nation.
