SAN FRANCISCO, October 01, (THEWILL) - Borno State Government has lost three of its pilgrims to this year's pilgrimage to Mecca.

Disclosing this Wednesday while speaking with journalists was the Secretary of the state Amirul Hajj committee, Alhaji Adamu Timta.

He listed the victims to include one female and two males, saying they died in separate places of worship in Kano, Medina and Mecca.

Timta, who also disclosed that one of the victims is from Biu Local Government while the two others are from the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, said all the victims have been buried at the various places of their death.

He however commended the state government for providing good accommodation for the state pilgrims in Mecca.

On the measures being taken to ensure that the pilgrims are well-informed on how to have a hitch-free hajj before their airlifting to the holy land, Timta said: “We have a lot of Islamic clerics and scholars that are responsible to enlighten as well as educate our pilgrims under our pre-Hajj learning sensitisation programme both in Nigeria and in the holy land.'

He assured that no pilgrim would encounter any problem in doing the tawaf or performing all the Hajj rites.

Timta's disclosure came as the Executive Secretary of the Borno Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Hassan Hassan, said the state government has provided a subsidy of $300 each to each of the 2,645 pilgrims in purchasing rams that would be slaughtered for the hajj rite known as “Hadaya.”
