Communiqué: Middle Belt Has Come Of Age!

By All Middle Belt Youth Forum, AMBYF

We, the people of the Middle Belt, under the banner of All Middle Belt Youth Forum, AMBYF, after our extensive meeting and deliberations on the problems facing the Nation and Middle Belt in particular held today 5th September 2014, in Abuja wished to disassociate ourselves from the ongoing butchery and maleficent destruction of lives and property by the so-called Islamists terrorists Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen because no reasonable mind or culture can support such unwarranted attack on living humanity and cultures.

We also wish to make it known to all that good people of the Middle Belt are not part of the Islamist North and Arewa born to rule political acrimony knowing not democratic alternatives and constitutionalism. We condemn the ongoing but needless war and campaign of calumny against the Presidency of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan. President Jonathan is not the cause of Nigeria's yearlong problems but only offered to serve and that is why the electorate gave him the mandate to rule and deliver. He should be supported rather than being warred down. We call on the Northern elders and elites to come together and join force with President Goodluck Jonathan, military and other security agencies on terrorism inferno rather than playing hide and seek games.

There is no brain in blame transfer making needless war on Mr. President over the ills of yesterdays that is confronting us all. The perverse Arewa North leaders and youths should try mind the business of the Islamist and undemocratic Arewa North and know that they are not speaking for the Middle Belt whenever they make and or draw political battle lines. Middle Belt voted massively for President Goodluck and stands behind him and his presidency and will not allow the unwarranted attack on him and his presidency. Middle Belt multinationals will always support and defend the presidential mandate of Dr. Jonathan and democratic ideals and constitutionalism because it is ideal and makes sense doing so.

We warn all interest groups to refrain from making inflammatory statements since it cannot help the Nation but worsen the fragile situation we have found ourselves. We call upon the good people of the North to rise for peace and caution those making callous statements asking the Igbo and other Southerners in the North to leave Northas seen with the Arewa Youth Development Foundation to desist from such disdainful activism. Igbo are modern merchants of light throwing open the dark corners of Nigeria and are also doing same world over;and anywhere you do not see them know it that the place has no room for humanity. Asking them to leave North or Middle Belt is like asking for the final descent of dark clouds on North that will blow no one good.

We, the people of Middle Belt therefore disassociate the multicultural people of Middle Belt from the threats against Igbo's and others and call upon our people not to buy into this anti-social postures of the Arewa North and continue with our efforts to Fetch Back Multicultural Middle Belt and Human Universe Bound Civilisation Project by going about their businesses minding human civilisation friendly cultures and lives. Arewa North stands alone on their anti-social and blind notions that advance nothing but foolery activism and bloodsheds. We encourage the good and moderate Muslims especially in the Arewa North and Middle Belt to keep faith and help spread the message of Islam with unsoiled hands and human friendly culture as major way of saving our collective humanity from terrorism scourge.

We, therefore declare that Middle Belt has come of ageand supports all the good ideals of the living humanity. We seek fellowship of those who have respect for the humanity of others and will always support the ideals of the multicultural Middle Belt and other peoples' and institutions with the same frame of mind. We condemn the daily massacre of the Middle Belters by the Fulani herdsmen and Islamist Boko Haram as an affront to our humanity and dignity. We hereby submit that we may no longer remain willing slaves and victims of man's inhumanity to man and may be forced to take our destiny into our hands if need be. Enough is enough!
