Rivers Gov’ship 2015: We’ve Grown Above Opponents’ Antics To Divert Our Attention –Obuah

By Rivers State PDP

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the purported interest and concern being bandied by certain individuals and groups on the Party's decision to throw its governorship ticket open to all qualified interested members of the party as mere antics to cause disaffection in the PDP so as to pave way for their paymaster, the APC to take over the State.

Dismissing the plot as a failed project, the PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah in a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media, Jerry Needam admonished such people to rechannel their energies to the All Progressives Congress, APC, which has been submerged and leave the PDP alone.

The party wonders why anybody who feels is worth their onions should be afraid of an open contest for a common interest and demands to know how such people will be able to face stiffer competition with opponents from the other parties in the election proper.

The problem with some people, the PDP notes is that they do not know where their rights as both individuals and self-acclaimed activists stop and where the responsibilities of constituted authorities begin, stressing that democracy everywhere is all about fairness, equity and justice to all and not designed to suit complacent groups wishing to use zoning for grabbing.

While trying not to join issues with those it describes as plotting to create a non-existing conflict among its fold, the PDP said the decision of the party to throw open all elective offices with regard to next year's general elections is sacrosanct and irreversible no matter how hard these 'APC spices' try to pollute the air.

The party also reiterates its appreciation and profound gratitude to the State leader, and Minister of State, for Education, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike for his courage and steadfastness not to allow the party die with Gov. Amaechi's exit and who had also boasted to force the PDP into extinction upon his exit.

Emphasizing to have grown above petty ranting and name calling solely aimed at inciting unnecessary crisis, the PDP challenged the like of Annkio-Briggs, Sara- Igbe, Elemchukwu Ogbowu and Prof Israel Owate to be bold enough to tell Rivers people the magic they hope to use to win the Presidential election for both President Goodluck Jonathan they claim to support and the PDP when all the council chairmen, councilors, commissioners and Special Advisers among others from their zones, villages, communities and local government areas in APC.

“How then do you want to be given the governorship ticket by disenfranchising others when under your nose, all your people have joined the APC, you could not convince even one councilor to follow you, you have no party structure in your little ward. How then do you win the election and with whose votes. These are relevant and agitating questions these political commentators who have overnight turned to be ethnic champions and advocates of justice and equity to justify the money they were paid have refused to answer.

Politics is not a matter of going to the newspapers or buying airtime on radio to blackmail and claim to be what you are not. It's a grassroots mobilization effort, putting up structure, maintaining and seeing to the upkeep of such structure, reaching out to the people and identifying with them at all times to know their problems, needs and attending to them and not just remembering and upsetting their sensibilities during election period just to take advantage of their helplessness,” the PDP declared.
