…Nabbed Trying To Dupe Lagos Hotelier

The police in Lagos have apprehended a three-man fraud squad who specialize in dropping the name of Akwa-Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio, to lure unsuspecting victims.

According to the story at our disposal, the three-man gang goes from one hotel to another in search of victims. Sources said that the gang leader, Mfon Charles, a 33-year old man claims to be working with Sahara Energy, while the two others, A. O Opeolu and Emeka Collins, claim to be an estate agent and lawyer respectively.

The conmen, we gathered, met their waterloo when they attempted to dupe a Lagos based hotelier whom they allegedly approached and asked to help him sell one of his properties put up for sale at N300 million.

As we heard, they told the hotelier that Akpabio would like to buy the property at the fixed price but that they will have the ten percent. The gang lured the hotelier to part with the percentage first claiming the money has been transferred by the governor.

The hotelier, being a smart businessman, ran checks on the gang and found out that they were fakes. He promptly alerted the DPO of police at Area F, Ikeja, whose men soon apprehended the conmen. It was after they were apprehended that they confessed that it was a plan hatched to reap where they did not sow.

They have since been remanded in Kirikiri Prisons by a judge last Tuesday when they appeared in court.
