Boko Haram: Borno Emirate Council Begins Three-Day Fasting, Prayers Thursday

SAN FRANCISCO, September 03, (THEWILL) - The unabating Boko Haram attacks in the North Eastern part of the country, especially Borno State, are now becoming a source of worry to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi.

The Shehu expressed this concern Wednesday in Maiduguri, the state capital, calling on all Muslim faithful in the state to immediately embark on a three-day fasting and prayers programme to seek divine intervention for the return of peace .

The Borno monarch also urged Christians in the state to continue praying to ward off the Boko Haram threats of seizing Bama .

In a statement issued by the secretary of Borno Emirate Council, Alhaji Zanna Laisu Kazalma, the Shehu, who is also the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Association, called on Muslim Umma in Borno State to embark on a three – day fasting and prayer programme beginning Thursday , September 4 to Saturday, September 6.

According to the statement, “The Umma is equally urged to offer Special Prayers in all Mosques and recitation of Khalimat Shahada 'La Ilaha Illallah' continuously during the fasting period. It is also urged that each and every Muslim individually and collectively offer Sadaqat to the needy and unprivileged, especially to those internally displaced persons in various camps.

“In the same vain, the Royal Father also urged the Christian Community in the State not to relent in their continuous prayers for peace and security to prevail in Borno and the Nigeria as a whole.”
