Akpabio Announces $1.8 Billion Methanol Plant in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio has announced that as

part of the industrialization program of his administration, a Methanol plant

estimated to cost $1.8billion is to be established in the state.

The Governor made this known during the Town Hall Forum at the 27th Annual

Convention of Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria, AKISAN, held in

Scottsdale, Arizona , USA,
He said that President Goodluck Jonathan would perform the ground breaking

ceremony for the project on Thursday 14 August.
Chief Godswill Akpabio while calling on Akwa Ibom people at home and in

the diaspora to eschew ethnicity and join hands to build a state that will meet the

expectations of its founding fathers, insisted that no enduring legacy can be built on the

platform of ethnicity.
Chief Akpabio enumerated the achievements recorded by his administration

in the past seven years and said though he has not done all he would have loved to do,

he was happy that he would leave Akwa Ibom far better than he met it.

He said that at the end of his tenure he would leave behind strong

legacies that must be maintained by his successor for the sustained development of the

state.
In the area of health care, Chief Akpabio said that the 300-bed Specialist

hospital located at Ekit Itam was nearing completion ,stating that over 400 health

professionals would be engaged, out of which 157 will be sourced from outside

Nigeria. He urged Akwa Ibom people in the diaspora who have the required

expertise to return and serve in the hospital which he said would be run at

international standard with attractive remunerations.

Chief Akpabio commended the leadership and members of AKISAN for holding

the annual convention to bring Akwa Ibom people together.

In his welcome address the National President of AKISAN Mr Emmanuel Isong

thanked governor Akpabio for his consistent support to the organisation since his

assumption of office. He said he had worked hard to unite Akwa Ibom people and open more

chapters of AKISAN in the USA He expressed optimism that the relationship

of the organisation with the government would continue to blossom in the years to

come.
Governor Akpabio was accompanied by some members of the national assembly,

Speaker and members of the state House of Assembly, Secretary to the state

government, Mr Udom Emmanuel, Commissioners, State Chairman of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo,

political and business leaders, local government chairmen as well as other

stakeholders.‎
