The embattled Governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, Tuesday left the state capital Lafia, for Abuja for an undisclosed reason as the plot to remove him from office thickens.

The governor was seen leaving the Government House, Lafia at exactly 4pm silently , even as the official flags on his vehicle were clipped.

Al-Makura who is facing impeachment threat  from the State House of Assembly over allegations of gross misconduct , left shortly after holding series of meetings with his commissioners and other stakeholders in the state.

Meanwhile, Lafia and other major towns in the state remained calm contrary to speculations that there may be protest  against the planned removal plot against  the governor.

The police and other security agencies were deployed in the early hours of yesterday   to forestall any imminent break down of law and order.

However; Al-Makura yesterday said he has not been served an impeachment notice as widely reported in some quarters.

The governor through his Special Adviser on Public Affairs,  Abdulhamid Kwara, said  in Lafia that he was ready to answer the allegations leveled against him appropriately when served the impeachment notice.

But the Clerk of the House, Ego Maikeffi countered the governor's position,  alleging that his efforts to reach the governor were yesterday frustrated by the police and other security operatives at the Government House.

Maikeffi added that he would serve the notice today through the media following the expiration of the two day timeline to that effect as mandated by the House leadership.

Also, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the impeachment move ,  describing it as a right step in the right direction.

The  State's PDP spokesman , Mark Natyo said in Lafia yesterday that  posterity would not forget  the legislators if they had continued to look the other way while the masses suffer mal-administration from the APC  led government in the State.
