Sultan urges Sanusi to show good leadership

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, urged the new Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi 11, to eschew fear or favour in handling the affairs of his subjects because leadership is a sacred duty for royal fathers.

Abubakar, while welcoming the new emir, who paid him a courtesy visit, to the membership of the Northern Council of Traditional Rulers and NSCIA yesterday, also urged politicians in the country not to see traditional rulers as competitors or enemies but partners in progress.

According to him, politicians and traditional rulers are not struggling over anything but are both after the welfare of the people. To that end, he urged them to avoid unnecessary arguments and war of words but partner in the socio-economic development of the country.

Leaders, he added, should work together to ensure success in leading the people. He emphasised that only God gives power to and takes it from whom He pleases, therefore the former governor of the Central bank of Nigeria should provide the required leadership. He prayed God to empower him in the exercise of his mandate.
