The Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, has said the  Ekiti governorship election was used by the Nigeria Police to show that it was possible for Nigerian security agencies to conduct free, fair and credible elections. Abubakar while fielding questions from State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja said,  “We used Ekiti to showcase the fact that it is possible for Nigerian security agencies to conduct free, fair and credible elections in this country. This should be taken as a test case, we will do everything to improve upon it.”

The IGP said what his men did in Ekiti was to do what was right and proper as the lead agency of internal security in collaboration and partnership with other security agencies.

Abubakar said the police was committed to ensuring that safety is provided for people to go and do what they are expected to do.

“I use this opportunity to thank all Nigerians particularly the good people of Ekiti State for conducting themselves in an orderly manner. Let us also thank all officers and men of all security agencies for discharging their responsibilities professionally,” he added.
