Delta leaders reaffirm support for Olejeme
Delta State Leaders under the aegis of The People's Movement on Wednesday bemoaned the propensity of some politicians in the state to perpetuate themselves in power, saying the political ambition of these politicians will end in mirage.
A statement by the Director of Communications of the TPM, Mr. Victor Oki after a meeting on how the state could be re-engineered to greater heights in Patani said the leaders reviewed the political situation in the state and urged the people to reject aspirants that have contributed to the state's adversity.
The statement said the leaders criticized what they described as attempts by some interests to deprive Delta North from occupying the exalted office in 2015.
Insisting that power should rotate among the three senatorial zones, the leaders said Delta North deserved to have a shot in 2015.
They also said only individuals that are willing and prepared to deploy their endowments for greater good would be encouraged to fly the flag of the major political parties both in the local, state and federal levels.
'Delta State needs competent political leaders in 2015; leaders who understand the state's problems and who have both the will and moral courage to use power solely for the purpose of reducing the frustration and suffering of our people; leaders who are prepared to wield power in full compliance with the principles and demands of social justice and transparency'
On the 2015 governorship election, the leaders insisted that the state needed a broad minded and well-connected person as Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan's successor, asserting that a member of the Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Program (SURE-P).Dr. Ngozi Olejeme is the best person for the job.
'Delta State needs someone with vision, sophistication and exposure in the saddle to be able to make a difference. The state needs a person with foresight to attract foreign investment. The state needs a strong personality prepared to serve' the leaders said.
Continuing, the leaders said 'Olejeme is a quintessential reformer; a woman of vision and foresight. She symbolizes the very best and will provide for the well-being of our people as well as deepen the mechanics of governance and service delivery in the state'.
'We are charting a new path towards putting Delta State on the platform of reckoning' the statement added.
