Retired Col. Umar condemns arrest of 486 terrorists in Aba

Former Governor of Kaduna State,Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar has dismissed the recent arrest of some 486 northerners by security operatives in Abia State as “ unfortunate” and a “dangerous red herring”.

In his view, the people are migrant workers and not terrorists.

He said the entire saga amounts to stereotyping which “can lead to serious reprisal reactions nationwide but particularly from the victims' states”.

Umar called for the immediate release of those he called “innocent hard working Nigerians” and urged the security forces to focus their attention on the real Boko Haram which has been wreaking havoc in the north east and other parts of the north.

Umar's statement said “The arrest of some migrant workers and traders in Aba by security forces under the false pretext that they are members of Boko Haram is unfortunate.Needless to say that this stereotyping can lead to serious reprisal reactions nationwide but particularly from the victims' states.

“Boko Haram does not travel in luxury buses with members of their family and unarmed.

“As much as the security forces want to prove that they are working, they should do so by focusing attention on the real Boko Haram which is causing havoc unchallenged in the North east and other parts of Northern Nigeria.

According to him,”These arrests are a dangerous red herring. These innocent hard working Nigerians must be released immediately
