Baird Strongly Condemns Attack in Kenya

OTTAWA, Canada, June 17, 2014/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement concerning Sunday's attack in Kenya:

“Canada is appalled by Sunday's attack on innocent civilians in Mpeketoni, Kenya, which claimed the lives of at least 48 people and wounded many more. Al-Shabaab militants have claimed responsibility for the attack.

“I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of the victims, on behalf of all Canadians, and to convey our wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured.

“Canada calls on the Kenyan authorities to bring to justice those responsible for this senseless act of violence.

“The Government of Canada continues to advise Canadians to exercise a high degree of caution in Kenya, remain extremely vigilant in public places and monitor local media and travel.gc.ca's Travel Advice and Advisories for Kenya website.”
