Again, Boko Haram Kills 15 In Borno Market

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, June 15, (THEWILL) - Boko Haram gunmen struck again Sunday morning killing 15 persons at a local market in Daku village in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The insurgents were also said to have set several shops, houses, vehicles and motorcycles ablaze during the attack.

Askira/Uba Local Government Area, which shares boundaries with Biu, Chibok, Gwoza and Hawul Local Government Areas, is located in the southern part of the state and is about 190 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

Local sources told THEWILL that the insurgents numbering over 20 armed with AK47 rifles, improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs stormed the market square on motorcycles and a Hilux Toyota vehicle at about 11am, opening fire on the traders, killing 15 persons instantly.

The gunmen were also said to have embarked on a looting spree in the market during the six-hour operation, carting away food items and an unspecified amount of money before escaping back into the Sambisa Forest.

However, no official confirmation of the attack was forthcoming when filing this report as the spokespersons of the police and military could not be reached as their telephone lines could not be reached.
