Katsina to sponsor over 40 contingent to World Cup

The Kastina State government under governor Ibrahim Shema has concluded plans to airlift a contingent of over 40 officials and sports stakeholders to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Coordinator of the state football club, Katsina Spotlight FC, Ayuba Umar who disclosed yesterday on phone said the move was to enable the state sports stakeholders garner more knowledge and expertise in the current dynamics of sports development and at the same time join other Nigerians to cheer the Super Eagles. 'The whole world will gather as from this week in Brazil for one month and we also want to be part of history as we cheer our darling Super Eagles to victory as well as use the opportunity to explore more gains in terms of football development for the Katsina State team. To this end the state governor has approved a contingent of 40 officials to travel to Brazil and see live the current dynamics of football development to be replicated in the state afterwards.'

Umar said the state commissioner of sports, Alhaji Aminu Zapana will lead the delegation. He also revealed that the state team, Katsina Spotlight have bounced back to winning ways since it was overhauled with the injection of nine new players in the midseason window.

'The team has improved since we overhauled it with the bringing in of nine players.

'The team has improved tremendously both at home and away. For instance last weekend only Spotlight got an away draw against Prisons of Abuja while all other teams lost.' Leadership
