BANKOLE ASSURES KANO FIRE VICTIMS OF ASSISTANCE

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole has assured victims of the Kantin Kwari market fire disaster in Kano of government assistance in ameliorating their loses.

A statement signed by Ebomhiana Musa, Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media said Bankole gave the assurance over the weekend when he paid a sympathy visit to the traders in the market.

The Speaker was received at the market by the chairman of the Kwari Market Traders' Association, Alhaji Bature Abdulaziz, the caretaker chairman, Alhaji Tanko Gambaga and other officials and elders of the market.

Bankole said he was short of words to describe the extent of damage done by the inferno, as millions of naira would have been lost in the disaster.

He, however, consoled the traders saying: ' God gives and takes' adding that the traders should take solace in the word of God. 'We will continue to do everything within our legislative powers to ensure that necessary assistance is extended to the victims,' he stated.

It would be recalled that the House, at its plenary session last Wednesday, set up a seven man panel headed by the former Speaker, Hon. Patricia Etteh to visit the burnt market on a fact-finding mission and sympathize with the people and government of the state.

The Speaker later visited the state governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau at the Government House to sympathize with him on the burnt market and congratulated him on his recent award as the Sarduana of Kano.
