World Cup 2014: Wayne Rooney 'Happy To Play Any Position'

Wayne Rooney says he is happy to play in any position for England at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The Manchester United striker, 28, scored in Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Ecuador, despite playing in an unfamiliar left-wing position.

'I enjoy playing for my country whether it is left wing, right wing, midfield or up front,' said Rooney.

'I am always proud to play for England and that won't change no matter where I am on the pitch.'

Rooney has scored 40 goals in 91 international appearances, but has failed to score in his eight World Cup matches, during the 2006 and 2010 competitions.

He missed the last three games of Manchester United's season with a groin injury and has been substituted after 66 and 64 minutes in the friendlies against Peru and Ecuador respectively.

England have other attacking options including Daniel Sturridge, Rickie Lambert, Danny Welbeck and Raheem Sterling and Rooney says he is not taking his place for granted.

'I don't think anyone is guaranteed a start in the team,' he added. 'It is down to the manager to pick the team and pick where he plays me. I am happy to play anywhere.

'It is a good squad so the manager will have some tough decisions.'

England play their final warm-up game against Honduras on Saturday before beginning their World Cup campaign against Italy a week later.
