SAN FRANCISCO, June 04, (THEWILL) â€' Nemesis caught up with some Boko Haram gunmen Wednesday as 20 of them were arrested when they attacked Mbulakudla village in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Boko Haram gunmen, who stormed the village, killing two villagers, were later given a hot chase by some brave young men in the village, who succeeded in arresting 20 of the terrorists.

Confirming the incident to THEWILL, Mallam Dawa Pogu, a local chief of a community in the area, said the gunmen stormed Mbulakudla village where they killed two persons but some brave young men pursued them and arrested 20 of them.

Pogu said the arrested gunmen were subsequently handed over to the security operatives in the area for appropriate action. He disclosed that the gunmen stormed the village in the wee hours on Tuesday and started shooting sporadically as they embarked on house-to-house raiding and looting.

Pogu said if the people did not repel the attack, the entire village would have been wiped out by the terrorists.

'We are thinking of the future of our children. They came, they killed and they left unchallenged. If we continue like this, there will be no village around our area in the nearest future. Everybody is running from one village to another village and when the other supposedly safe village is attacked, they run again to another village. For how long shall we continue running away from these criminals who have no respect for religion or tribe or region?,' he said.

According to the local chief, all the villages along the highway from Maiduguri to Askira/Uba have all been wiped out, leaving only a few villages. 'We have security but they cannot come to our aid because they too are humans and have their own problems. They would not come to rescue villages that are being attacked. Unless government looks into their problems and solve them, we will continue to have problems,' he said.

He disclosed that some security operatives confided in him that they were not mobilised enough and their allowances have been left unpaid. He lamented that not all the security operatives stationed in their localities are trustworthy as he wondered why with the presence of such security, the Boko Haram gunmen still wreak much havoc without being challenged by the security operatives
