Petition: APC Is A Shameless Party—Bamidele

Labour Party  Governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Hon Opeyemi Bamidele has declared that the Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Chief Jide Awe lacks the moral standing to accuse the opposition of perpetrating  criminality in the State.

Bamidele declared that  the same Awe, who has consistently been crying wolf over phantom and self-instigated attacks, is currently standing trial at the Ekiti State magistrate Court over alleged involvement in the murder of a People's Democratic Party member, Mr Ayo Jeje in Erinjiyan Ekiti early 2013.

In a statement by his media aide, Ahmed Salami and made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday also pointed out  that the Senior Special Assistant on security matters, Mr Deji Adesokan and two other special assistants  to Governor Kayode Fayemi, Dele Owoju and Richard Apolola, are being tried for gun-running and attempted murder in the High Court in Ado Ekiti.

He said if there is any party that must be thoroughly investigated by security agencies, it is APC. They said the LP members were responsible for the crisis that broke out in Ikere last Saturday, we want to ask that it is possible for members of our party to destroy the same rally we spent several millions of naira to organize? This is

to tell the whole world that the APC is only being smart by half.

Bamidele hinted that the letter dated May 27 signed on behalf of the party to Assistant Inspector General of Police, zone 8, Mr Christopher Dega, where Awe had catalogued how his party members were purportedly being attacked by opposition, including LP, was done in bad faith and without recourse to the history each party has written in the minds of Ekiti populace .

We hereby condemn this letter and urge the APC to tender apology to the Nigerian populace for this misinformation. Every person in Ekiti knows  that the ruling party  has been behind all the series of violence that had happened in the build up to the June 21 election.

Aside this, the  letter has further confirmed that the APC is a shameless party because we believe that a party, whose Chairman is

being tried for criminal offence and many top members of its cabinet had been docked  for other nefarious offences shouldn't have written such a weighty petition.

We want to advise the AIG and the Inspector General of police to discountenance the petition and conduct an independent investigation into all the violent attacks that had happened in the State to ascertain the level of culpability of each of the political actors and their parties.

It won't be a misplaced fact to conclude that  what had led to the supercharged political hemisphere in the State since the commencement of the electioneering campaign was a  tyranny of incumbency. The

APC-led government has been using the State's instruments to oppress and suppress the opposition.

It is our believe that when the Chief Security Officer, whose responsibility is to protect the lives and property of the citizenry turned out to be using same to haunt perceived opponent, then such will precipitate  a breakdown of law and order , particularly under an election period as obtainable in Ekiti.

Bamidele charged the people of the State to disregard the letter and plead with Fayemi-led Government to allow peace to reign as no amount of smartness and arm-twisting will extricate those that had perpetrated violence in the party  from  prosecution.
