Bayelsa settles for low-key Children's Day celebration

Bayelsa State government has directed that the year's Children's Day celebration be without the traditional march past and related activities.

The government, in a statement by Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seriake Dickson, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the move was in line with the current mood of the nation.

The terse statement read;
“This is to inform the general public, especially our children that, due to the current mood and the various challenges facing the nation, His Excellency, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State has directed that, this year's children's Day celebration in the state scheduled for Tuesday, 27

th of May, 2014, be made low-keyed.
“To this end, the traditional march-past and children's party in Government House have been cancelled.

“However, to give the children a sense of belonging, the Governor is expected to host a few selected children to a close door get-together at the Governor's lodge, Government House, Yenagoa by 4 O'clock in the evening on Tuesday, 27

th of May, 2014.
“The various Local Government Chairmen in the state have also been directed by this announcement to comply and act accordingly.

“Government regrets the inconveniences this might cause the general public, especially our lovely children”, the statement concluded.
