BEVERLY HILLS, CA, May 21, (THEWILL) â€' Rampaging Boko Haram gunmen apparently searching for food to replenish their food supply stormed Alagarno village in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday, killing 19 persons and making away with large stock of food items.

Alagarno is close to Askira in Askira/Uba Local Government Area, about 117 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital, and about 30 kilometres from Chibok where over 200 schoolgirls were abducted over a month ago.

The Emir of Askira, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed Askirama confirmed the incident to THEWILL, saying that 17 persons were killed with over 60 houses torched.

However, local sources told THEWILL that the gunmen stormed the village in the wee hours of Wednesday, setting several houses ablaze after sending 19 persons to their early graves.

Mallam Umaru Saina, a resident of the village, said a young woman was discovered missing after the chaos associated with the attack.

'They destroyed everything we have and burnt down our remaining food. The most painful thing is that they did not spare children. They killed children, women and men,' he said.

Though there was no official confirmation of the attack at the time of filing this report, security sources said the military have since been deployed to the community.
