Ex-Imo Governor, Ohakim escapes death as explosion destroys home in Owerri …Okorocha condemns act as barbaric

The private residence of the immediate past governor of Imo State, Godson Ikedi Ohakim, was, in the early hours of Thursday, reduced to ruins following a heavy explosion which rocked the multi million naira palatial residence located in the serene part of Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Receiving sympathisers, who stormed the now devastated edifice of the former governor in the city, Ohakim, who spoke amidst tears, lamented that he had been rendered homeless by the wicked action of his perceived political opponents, saying, 'what it means now is that any time I have something to do in Owerri, I will be begging people for where to sleep in a state I once presided as governor'.

Meanwhile, the state government, through a statement, has condemned the act in its entirety, saying it is an act of cowardice.  It is barbaric and unfortunate, in all ramifications.

According to the statement, 'the government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha has been preaching tolerance and politics without bitterness among Imo politicians, and the governor has also been demonstrating that both in words and in action since he came on board in 2011.'
