House Extols Oputa, Otedola's Virtues

SAN FRANCISCO, May 08, (THEWILL) â€' The House of Representatives Wednesday paid glowing tributes to the late legal luminary, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa and former Lagos State governor, the late Sir Michael Otedola.

The House also observed a minute silence for the nation's fallen heroes.

These decisions of the House were predicated upon the adoption of resolution followed a motion moved by Hon. Stella Dorgu(PDP- Bayelsa) at the plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.

While leadind debate on the motion, Dorgu described both men as nationalits.

In their various tributes, the lawmakers described the late Oputa as a judicial icon that should be celebrated and immortalised.

Hon. Ossai Ossai(PDP- Delta) said the late Oputa gave justice a new meaning and deserves to be celebrated by all.

He said the House should not only observe a minute silence, but an institution should be named after him.

' The late jurist left footprints in the sand of times, we should therefore immortalise this man,' he said.

In his tribute,Hon. Ibrahim El- Sudi(PDP-Taraba), also aligned himself with the submission of Ossai that the late Oputa deserves to be celebrated.

Deputy chairman, House committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Victor Ogene(APGA-Anambra), and Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa(APC-Lagos), extolled the attributes of the late judicial icon.

They said that he lived an exemplary life and should therefore be immortalised.

Ogene said: ' Oputa as a Supreme Court Justice was described as Lord Denning of Nigeria judiciary due to his insightful judgments'.

Hon. Jerry Alagboso(PDP-Imo) described late Oputa as a nationalist as well as a man of many parts.
