Gunmen Kill Borno Council Chairman’s Son

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Sunday invaded the residence of the Caretaker Chairman of Shani Local Government Area of Borno state, Alhaji Madu Walama, in Walama village killing his son, Abdulrahman aged 20.

The gunmen also shot dead a driver in his car on the Biu- Shani - Numan road while escaping after the attack.

Shani Local Government shares boarder with Adamawa state, and it is located about 240 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

Our Correspondent gathered from residents of Walama, that this is the fourth time unknown gunmen have invaded the Council Chairman's house in Walama village with the intent to killed the Chairman but fail because the Chairman was not in the house at all the times of the attacks.

Sources said, " When the gunmen invaded the house, they asked for the whereabouts of the Chairman, and when they discovered that the council Boss was not around, they opened fire on one of his son, before living him in the pool of his blood.

Although, he was rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the villagers " The gunmen numbering 5 in a private vehicle stormed the village at about 11 pm on Sunday, and stormed the chairman's house to commit their atrocity but did not touch any other residents.

A man driving along the main road was equally killed by the attackers while they were escaping from the scene, the source said.

The Borno State Police Commissioner, Mr. Lawal Tanko confirmed the incident, saying the gunmen were suspected to be armed robbers.
