The Progressive People's Alliance (PPA) has asked Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan, to beware of those it described as political jobbers and sycophants, who would deceive him in his task of stabilizing the polity.

In a press statement signed by Chief Ben Onyechere, National Publicity Secretary, the PPA asked Jonathan not to be carried away by the comments of those pretending to love him. Specifically, it warned the acting president to be careful of those attacking President Umaru Yar'Adua to please him.

The party said the stability of the country should be paramount, while urging Jonathan to quickly provide succour for the citizenry.

The statement by PPA reads: 'These people, who are making inflammatory statements about the presidency, should understand that such comments could cause friction and bring about instability in the country. These people, calling for the head of Turai Yar'Adua and her sick husband, are crying more than the bereaved because they must understand that they are making caricature of the president of Nigeria, while pretending to be supporting Jonathan.

'When Obasanjo, who put us in this dilemma, ruled this country for eight years and made a mess of it, these people merely sulked in their homes without any reasonable criticism. The acting president is a brilliant man whom God has ordained to be in charge at this time, whether acting or substantive. Therefore, he should be allowed and given the free hand to dispense governance.

'PPA will never relent in its avowed commitment to the stability of this country, which is the reason we went into Government of National Unity. The stability of this country is more important than the shedding of criminal crocodile tears and unsolicited sentiments.
