A member of the House of Representatives for Gusua/Tsafe federal constituency, Hon. Shehu Ibrahim Gusau, has disclosed that Zamfara State has only 10 qualified medical doctors in all its hospitals.

Gusua also said that there were only a few trained nurses in the public hospitals in the state.

Speaking on the political developments in the state, the lawmaker noted that in the past 16 years, Zamfara had not experienced any reasonable level of good governance.

He said the state was backward in all sectors of the economy, adding that portable water supply had become a major issue in the state.

Gusua, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the People's Democratic Party, PDP, admitted his move was to attract federal presence to the state.

The lawmaker expressed optimism that PDP would win the 2015 governorship election in the state.

Gusau, who is the chairman, House Committee on ICT, said the N14, 691, 964, 559 billion allocated to the sector was grossly inadequate. He said the Federal Government had not yet paid the benefits due to members of staff of NITEL/MTEL, who were laid off last year.

He, however, denied insinuations in some quarters that the 2014 budget was hurriedly passed by the National Assembly with bloated recurrent expenditure.
