Power Kiosks To Be Provided In Borno

The Minister of State (power) Hon. Mohammed Wakil has said that Power Kiosks are to be provided to Rural areas in Borno and other parts of the Country as a short time term measure to address power shortage.

Speaking to the press in Maiduguri at the end of his three days working visit to Borno his home state one month after assuming office, he said," the federal government is working on the Presidential initiative on renewable energy to ensure quick power generation through Bio-mass, Solar and Wind energy".

He said the power kiosk is a mobile unit of electricity generating device which use solar energy and can be used to power simple devices like sewing machines or small grinding machines in the rural areas to encourage the establishment of cottage industries .

Hon. Mohammed Wakil said that work on the 132-330 KVA Maiduguri transmition line from Damaturu has reached 80% completion and expressed satisfaction with the commitment of the contractors for not abandoning their eork even in the face of the security challenges in the area,

The Minister also said that his ministry will liaise with the miilitary to ensure that installations are protected across the country to checkmate what he described as "infrastructural terrorism" adding that one billion dollars is to be injucted to protect installations,

He announced that the TCN has confirmed to him that a large transformer from Shiroro Hydroelectric power station is already on its way to Maiduguri the Borno state capital to boost the power supply in the town.
