CDD Calls On INEC To Extend Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) Exercise In Osun State

By CDD Nigeria

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) (www.cddwestafrica.org), having observed the recently concluded Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Osun State, call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the exercise for another week.

Though, the exercise witnessed large turnout of eligible voters, however, the timeline for the registration was too short and further incapacitated by inadequate Direct Data Capture (DDC) machine. Our observation revealed that virtually all the registration centers had only one DDC machines, and in rare cases two, DDC machines attending to large number of prospective registrants.

For example, many prospective registrants as at the end of the exercise in Olorunda local government, Owo Ope, Saint James Elementary School ward 6 and 7; Osogbo local government, ward 11, Saint Anthony Ward 1, Odo-tin Local Government, Okuku, Oyinlola District Council, Odo-tin Local Government, Okuku left without registering. In view of the afore-stated, WE call on INEC to extend the CVR exercise by a week to allow for registration of all willing and eligible voters in the state.
