Cash-and-Carry Being Abolished In Phases

Government is pursuing the abolition of the Cash and Carry System in phases to avoid any undesirable effect on the financing of the health sector. The Eastern Regional Health Insurance Secretariat is therefore facilitating the provision of alternative health care financing system through different types of health insurance schemes. So far, about 18 mutual health organizations have been formed under seven categories, and they are either operating a scheme or are in their preparatory stage. The seven categories are districts, religious groups, school health schemes, "Awo Pa Health Schemes", Sub-Urban, Employee Credit and Civil Servants Health schemes. Eastern Regional Minister, Dr. Francis Osafo-Mensah, announced this decision when he addressed the press on development projects in the Eastern Region. He said the Regional Health Insurance Secretariat is still helping communities and organizations through advocacy, education and technical assistance to extend the scheme to all persons in the region.
