Ogun AC aspirant seeks party's reconciliation

Mr. Kayode Soyinka, Action Congress (AC) gubernatorial aspirant for the 2011 general election in Ogun State has called for the reconciliation of party members ahead the 2011 general elections.

He made the call during an interactive session with newsmen at Ifo Local Government Area after a visit of party leaders to all the 21 council in the state.

The aspirant from Ogun Central Senatorial District, reiterated his intention to the party leadership in the district and laid emphasis on the need for reconciliation within the party.

Soyinka, who is also the Editor-in- Chief of Africa Today, urged party members and leaders to clean the party before going to contest in the 2011 general elections. According to him, Action Congress is a peaceful, principled, and polite party.

'I do not have any godfather. I am relying on my astuteness, accountability, transparency, and goodwill to see me through. There is no division in the party. We have the mainstream party and its structures are still intact. What you can say exist in the party since 2007 are skirmishes and disagreement that can happen to any party.

'Since then, there has not been any reconciliation in the party till today, If we do not reconcile, we cannot contest for election in 2011 and if we contest, we might not be able to win.

'I am ready for reconciliation because AC is a party with principles and that is why we are still there; those who do not have principles have gone. We must do things properly, if we do things well, it will earn us a strong chance to win in 2011 elections. They are watching us, if we are not responsible we cannot have a responsible governor, councilor, even chairman.'

Soyinka added: 'It pains me so much if we don't do things correctly, there might be a risk of not getting the party ticket but some body should be bold enough to confront his party and make them understand that we have lost elections twice. We have a batter chance of getting there, let us show that we are different from People's Democratic Party (PDP), let us show that we are a party with peace, love and harmony. We must go everywhere to preach unity. If I am campaigning, I will preach this around the state so that we can bring peace back to the state.'

Meanwhile, the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) youth leader in the local government council of the state, Hon. Olawoyin Azeez who absconded with 125 members said, they defected to AC because of the vision, integrity, principle and level of ideology in the party.
