Yobe killings: NUT begs govt to strengthen security in schools

By The Citizen

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) on Thursday called on the Federal Government to strengthen security in schools across the country.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Secretary of the union, Mr Obong Obong.

The statement came on the heels of the killing of some pupils of the Federal Government College Buni Yadi, Yobe.

It said the call was aimed at protecting the lives of teachers and pupils in particular as well as that of other Nigerians.

'We commiserate with the government, parents and teachers in Yobe.

'We call on the Federal Government to strengthen security and ensure the protection of our children and the entire school system. This is one incident too many,' it added.

The statement called on teachers and students not to be discouraged in their intellectual pursuit, even in the face of the prevailing security challenge.

It also urged the people to remain hopeful that the situation would end.

'The NUT wishes to appreciate our professional colleagues across the world for their concern and solidarity,' he said.
