GOVERNOR SHEKARAU BAGS AFRIPOL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Afripol Organization (Africa Political and Economic Strategic Centre) have awarded His Excellency Malam Dr. Ibrahim Shekarau, The Executive Governor of Kano State, Nigeria The AFRIPOL Achievement Award - THE ENVROMENTAL GOVERNOR.
His Excellency Malam Dr. Ibrahim Shekarau was honoured because of his vision and effort in embarking on integrated environmental and comprehensive waste management project. The integrated disposal of waste connotes a solid waste service and prudent management which will be instituted for the collection, disposal and recycling of discarded materials in a manner that will be safe, efficient, environmentally sound and cost-effective.
On the completion of the project it will immensely reduce littering on the ecosystem of Kano State. With this project a neat ambience will emerge which will reduce and depopulate mosquito, ultimately reducing malaria and diseases associated with polluted ecosystem. The advantages of a clean environment cannot be overemphasis including the drastic curtailed of misquotes and malaria, immense reduction of pollution in underground water, emergence of clean air that is free of methane. This will also add to an overall enhancement and enrichment of optimum health and well being for the citizens of Kano.
With this venture, Kano state will become an example to the rest of other Nigerian states. The Federal government of Nigeria and international institutions including World Bank and African development Bank must try to encourage the governor and the citizens of Kano on this important project.
Emeka Chiakwelu, the principal policy strategist at Afripol made the award presentation to the Governor last Wednesday October 21, 2009 in Houston, Texas USA.
