Wada wins at Supreme Court

By The Citizen

The Supreme Court on Friday declared the Kogi State Governor, Capt Idris Wada (retd.), as the validly nominated candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the December 2011 governorship election in the state.

A member of the party, Jibrin Echocho, had challenged Wada's emergence as the party's candidate, claiming that he had earlier been elected as the candidate of the PDP in an earlier primary of the party.

Delivering judgment in the case in Abuja, the justices of the apex court dismissed Echocho's appeal, declaring that Wada was legally nominated as the candidate of the PDP in the 2011 election.

Meanwhile, Kogi State Governor has described  his victory at the Supreme Court on Friday as 'freedom received at the highest temple of mother justice.'

The governor in a statement by  his Special Adviser, Media and Strategy, Mr. Jacob Edi, on Friday said he hoped the judgement will put an end to the agitation by his opponents to put spanner in the works of his government.

He reaffirmed his confidence in  the judiciary as the last hope of the common man,  where, according to him, truth is the essential ingredient for justice.
