Jonathan appoints Zenith Bank chief as new CBN Governor

Few hours after suspending Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed Godwin Emefiele new boss of the apex bank.

Jonathan has sent Emefiele's name to the Senate for confirmation.

Emefiele is Managing Director of Zenith Bank.
Following Sanusi's removal early Thursday, Jonathan named Sanusi's former deputy Sarah Alade, as acting governor of the bank.

If confirmed by the senate, the. President said in the letter to the Senate,  Mr. Emefiele will become the substantive governor in place of Mr. Sanusi whose tenure lapses in June.

The president also nominated Adelabu Adebayo,  executive director at First Bank, as new deputy Governor of CBN.
