SAHCOL buys new equipment to boost customer service

The Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL) has said its recent investment in modern equipment is expected to boost its customer service targets in the coming months.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Chairman of the company, Mr. Taiwo Afolabi, said that the investment, put at billions of naira, would help to improve its quality of service to its customers better.

He said, 'In the last four years, huge investment has been made in critical ground equipment running into billions of naira, while plans are on to take delivery of more modern equipment in the months ahead.

'The ultra-modern cargo warehouse which will become operational in the second quarter of 2014 is state-of-the-art and the first of its kind in West Africa, and will be equipped with modern infrastructure; and has been designed to eliminate unprofessional cargo handling practices that are peculiar to the Nigerian environment.'

Afolabi, who spoke during the company's 2014 four-day management retreat, recalled that, when the Sifax Group invested in SAHCOL in 2009 through the Bureau of Public Enterprises, the objectives were to reverse the trend of decline and build a company that could effectively compete in ground handling, not just in Nigeria but globally.

He explained that primarily, the focus had been on the provision of quality service as well as the welfare of all members of staff in SAHCOL, stressing that these values had not changed, and that the board was committed to do more.

He said, 'As service providers, customers are the only reason we are in business today; and for us to remain in business tomorrow, our collective efforts must be directed at delivering quality service that will exceed their expectations.

'Customers' satisfaction is the guarantee that the company will earn revenue which will translate into salaries for workers and profits for shareholders; hence, we must place premium on having them satisfied beyond bounds.'

He said the board remained committed to providing every necessary support that would make SAHCOL to emerge as the ground handling of choice, and as an organisation that caters for the welfare of its employees.

While thanking the workers for their efforts in 2013 and since the takeover of SAHCOL by the Sifax Group, Afolabi said SAHCOL would continue to take steady steps in the direction of its vision.
