Son of Governor T.A Orji of Abia State, Eng. Chinedu Orji, has described

as cheap blackmail and a concoction of lies, some media reports that he

killed his Personal Assistant, Mr. John Ndubuka at the Okpara Square,

Umuahia last Saturday.
Orji told Pointblanknews.com that disgruntled politicians from the state

has cached on the painful and tragic incident to smear him and accuse him

of murder.
He said politicians who have been serially disgraced by the landmark

achievements recorded by his father in the state are bent on eliminating

members of his family and him as the main target.
“Disgruntled politicians who have been stripped and exposed for what they

are and who have been disgraced by the monumental achievements of the

Ochendo Government wants to eliminate me and my family,” Orji told

Pointblanknews.com.
Some media reports had claimed that the Governor's son ordered the killing

of his Personal Assistant, PA, over a disagreement.

In an interview with Pointblanknews.com, Orji disclosed that few months

ago, he had sent a petition to the security agencies alerting them of

threat to his life. He said, “this incident is a clear pointer that my

life is in danger.”
According to him, “ I was in the car leaving the venue of the reception

for his Excellency when I was informed that the Governor's convoy was

already ahead.
“While we were waiting, I heard a gun shot, I asked where the gun shot was

coming from. It was then I was told John was on the floor. I saw him

clutching to his chest and I immediately called Dr. Chukwu of the Federal

Medical Center and others for help
“I nearly fainted seeing my PA struggling for life but he was pronounced

dead by the Doctors. He was killed
from an unknown gun source

while leaving the venue at the end of a civic reception.

Tracing the family relationship, Orji said, “John and I are from the same

hamlet, same family. After his Youth Service, my father gave him a job and

I then asked him to join me and we have been together since then. We never

had any argument. He was a very lively fellow
“How can I kill a family member, someone we have built from the scratch?

He has a son and a pregnant wife.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Geoffrey

Ogbonna, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the incident,

saying three suspects had been taken into custody while investigation had

commenced to establish the source and motive behind the shooting.

But the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Eze Chikamnayo, told

journalists at a press conference yesterday that given the circumstances

of the shooting, nothing could be ruled out, including assassination.

According to him, a policeman sent to disperse the surging crowd blocking

the flow of vehicles initially fired two shots in the air but the third

and fatal shot could not be traced.

“There is nothing to rule out at this time. It could have been an

assassination attempt,” he said, adding that the victim was shot from the

back while he was about entering the vehicle.

Chikamnayo stated that the governor's son could have been the

target of the gunshot considering the trajectory and the crowd of youths

surging towards their idol, fondly known as Ikuku oma (Sweet breeze).
