The Kano State Government on Thursday shut down two private hospitals, Fazma Orthopaedic Hospital and Quality Clinics and Laboratory at Unguuwa Uku, all in Kano metropolis due to poor hygiene.

This is contained in a statement signed by Alhaji Isma'il Gwammaja, the Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Health, in Kano.

The statement quoted Dr Salisu Ibrahim, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Private Health Institutions, as saying that the hospitals were also conducting illegal operations.

Fazma hospital, the statement said, was partially closed and had been warned not to admit more patients until it fulfilled all the necessary requirements.

It said the hospital was only allowed to continue to manage the existing patients in the hospital in view of their critical conditions.

It further decried the poor condition and the dilapidated structures at Fazma hospital.

Quality Clinic, he alleged, was operating illegally without any permission or registration from the appropriate authorities, besides its poor hygiene.

The statement warned owners of private clinics to always comply with the laws guiding the profession, saying the present administration was committed to improving the health condition of its people. NAN
