It's a triumph for nationalism, says ruling party SAN FRANCISCO, January 30, (THEWILL) -  The leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday commended the Senate for going ahead to thoroughly screen and clear the new Service Chiefs in spite of what it described as the  'wicked plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC)  to stall the process.

' PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said  in a statement that  'in completely ignoring the APC, the lawmakers have shown that they are indeed statesmen who are alive to their constitutional responsibilities for which they were elected by Nigerians.

' The party commended the APC senators who participated in the exercise for their commitment to nation building, hailing  them for rejecting the parochial directive of their desperate party leaders.

The party said the lawmakers have 'rekindled the hope of Nigerians in the National Assembly as the last defence for democracy,' adding that it is 'highly impressed by the roles the Senate and its leadership have been playing to ensure the stability of the nation.

' PDP also urged the lawmakers to continue to ignore the APC by accelerating the consideration and passage of the 2014 budget and all other bills pending before them in the national interest.

The ruling party however  assured that it will continue to be committed to national unity, peace, security and welfare of all Nigerians at all times as it  urged Nigerians to continue to give support to its programmes and government at all levels.
