Boko Haram: Kogi Varsity Don, 2 Others To Be Arraigned Feb. 3

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, January 28, (THEWILL) - A Kogi State University lecturer, Dr.

Nazeef Yunus, and two others, Umar Musa and Salami Abdullahi, arrested by the State Security Services (SSS) over alleged terrorist activities are to be arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on February 3.

Presiding judge of the court, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, fixed the date  following disclosure  that charges filed against the accused persons by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation had not been served on them.

He therefore ordered that the charges must be served on the suspects before February 3 with the suspects remaining  in the custody of the SSS until the date.

Yunus, a lecturer in the Arabic Studies  Department of the Kogi State University, is suspected  to be the spiritual leader and coordinator of the Boko Haram sect in Kogi State.

The SSS, which said  the suspects planned to install Sharia in Kogi State,  accused them  of planning to   attack  parts of the state before they were arrested at a mosque in Zuba, a town near Abuja, while on their way to Zambisa in Maiduguri, Borno State, for training.

Three other suspected members of the Kogi State Boko Haram cell - Mustapha Yusuf, Ismaila Abdulazeez, and Ibrahim Isa Hayafu - were freed a week ago by the court as no charge was brought against them.

The court also adjourned to February 7 ruling  on an application filed by one of the suspects, Salami Abdullahi, to enforce his fundamental rights.

In the application, Abdullahi accused the SSS of illegal detention, urging  the court to intervene by setting him free.

The SSS however opposed the application, arguing that a Magistrate Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, empowered it to detain the suspects.
