Adeyeye Cautions Fayemi Over Interference In Ekiti RTEAN Leadership Tussle
Afenifere Chieftain and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye has cautioned the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi over his alleged interference in the crisis rocking the State chapter of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).
Adeyeye, who said the State Government should not have any business in who leads the RTEAN and other labour unions in the State, added that; "It is the height of pettiness for a State Governor to be involved in the running of unions and associations to the extent that even school Prefects cannot emerge without his involvement."
Speaking through the Director General of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM), the governorship aspirant said he was worried that members of the RTEAN in the State are again spoiling for war over alleged plot by the government to return the removed State Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Olanbiwonu to office.
He called on the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe and other notable indigenes of the State to prevail upon Governor Fayemi to allow the RTEAN and other labour unions in the State to run their unions in accordance with their rules so as to avoid the kind of chaos that was witnessed in Ado-Ekiti on January 8.
"Kabiyesi, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti and other Ekiti leaders like Aare Afe Babalola, should help ask Governor Fayemi why he is so desperate about Olanbiwonu's remain in office for another six months because of the forthcoming governorship election, to the extent that he won't mind setting the State on fire.
"We have been told that arrangements have been made for Mobile Policemen and Soldiers to be mobilised into Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, so that when Olanbiwonu is imposed as the RTEAN chairman, those that are opposed to him will be arrested.
"We are also aware that those opposed to the return of Olanbiwonu are spoiling for war, insisting that, having spent nine years as against the eight years permitted by the association's constitution, they will resist Olanbiwonu's return to office with the last drop of their blood.
"Therefore, Governor Fayemi should save Ekiti people from the impending bloodshed and breakdown of law and order by desisting from interfering in the affairs of the RTEAN," Adeyeye said.
While also describing Fayemi's association with Olanbiwonu as a confirmation of his support for thuggery and political violence in the State, Adeyeye said; "It is on record that Olanbiwonu and others were arrested and charged to court for the murder of Chief Adeleye Awolumate. It was the governor, who got Olanbiwonu and his other accomplices freed from trial.
"Is Fayemi now desperately plotting Olanbiwonu's return as RTEAN chairman so that he can kill more people before and during the forthcoming election?"
