No fewer than 10 motorists driving against the traffic on the Onitsha-Owerri road in Anambra were on Thursday reprimanded by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

Mr Daniel Asanya, the Unit Commander of FRSC in Ihiala, said in Ihiala near Onitsha that the attitude of the motorists had been an increasing cause of crashes on the road.

Asanya said the trend had continued in spite of appeals by the commission in worship places and social gatherings to motorists, especially those living in communities on the course of the road to stop the habit.

“The command has decided to stop this attitude that is prevalent and that is gradually becoming a leading cause of crashes we record on the road.

“For those booked and, who must pay their fines, we have also scheduled public enlightenment for them before we release their vehicles or documents to them.

“This exercise will continue each day until we see a clear change of attitude from the motorists.

“We will also write to all the villages and worship centres around or close to the road as well as lecturers and staff of Madonna University, Okija, on this issue,'' he said.

The commander expressed optimism that if the motorist changed their attitude, “it is possible to have zero record of road traffic crash on Onitsha-Owerri road this year''.
