The Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) has asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to give peace a chance and stop witch-hunting the governors and lawmakers that dumped the party.

The party urged Nigerians, especially the political class to shun violence as the nation enters the crucial year of decision making and electioneering processes, which according to it are aimed to move it forward.

The National Chairman of PPA, Mr. Peter Ameh, who gave the charge in a new year message issued in Abuja, recalled how governors elected under the platform of PPA and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) decamped to the ruling PDP in the recent past.

“Heaven did not fall when former Governor Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State and incumbent Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State dumped the PPA to join PDP.”

The PPA boss also cited the cases of the current Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda and former Governor Saminu Turaki of Jigawa State, who respectively decamped to PDP from the ANPP, warning PDP to stop further heating up of the polity with this unnecessary issue.

“Let us leave behind partisan politics and face the future credibly. Take for instance what is happening in the PDP, with the ruling party crying foul over governors and lawmakers decamping.

“PDP has soon forgotten that there was once a time where other governors and lawmakers were decamping from other parties. For example, PPA and ANPP lost governors and handful of some lawmakers to PDP.

“As it is said, what goes around comes around. We should all forge ahead with issue based politics and not 'only when it affects me' kind of politics,” he said.

According to him, “Let me extend the warmest regards and love from PPA to the good people of Nigeria on the occasion of celebration of this new year, 2014. In this new year, I urge that as a country, we embrace freedom and justice, equity and selflessness for all.

“We shall have freedom to choose whom to governs and who does not govern us, freedom to worship in the manner we deem, freedom to be; even not for us, but for our children and children's children sake.”

Ameh who was recently elected as national chairman, commended the doggedness and faithfulness of the PPA members, charged them to keep up the good work to ensure that the change they have always yearning for was actualised.
