Defection: Jonathan to meet Obasanjo, PDP NEC on Monday

President Jonathan will meet with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership on Monday, according to a report in the Nigerian tribune.

According to the report, the PDP leadership, in conjunction with the presidency, has summoned series of meetings of various organs of the party for next week.

Former President  Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is among the about 40 top leaders of the party whose invitation letters have been dispatched, it was learnt.

In a letter sent in Abuja, on Tuesday, the party fixed its National Working Committee (NWC) meeting for Monday, January 6; national caucus meeting for Tuesday, January 7; Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting for Wednesday, January 8 and the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for Thursday, January 9.

National chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, was reportedly ordered back from United Kingdom (UK) to coordinate the meetings.

Sources at the party secretariat also said that key issues scheduled for discussions at the meetings included the crisis of defection rocking it, subsisting grievances among members, rift between the Jonathan and Obasanjo, preparations for 2015 elections.

It was learnt that the three meetings preceding the party's NEC on Thursday would agree on memorandum and other resolutions to be presented for the NEC to approve.

The NEC, it was gathered, would also approve and release timetable for governorship primaries in Ekiti and Osun states, among others.

It would also considered for approval, the expulsion of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Dr Sam Sam Jaja and Alhaji Ibrahim Kazaure and other leaders of the party, as recommended by its disciplinary committee.

It was also learnt that the meetings may move for the appointments of caretaker committees for state executive committees in states where governors had already defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
