Borno intends to spend 11 Billion Naira on Education in 2014

The Borno state government intends to spend more than 11Billion Naira on Education foe borh recurrent and caoital expenditure in 2014.

Governor Kashim Shettima who made this kniwn while presenting the 2014 budget proposals to the State House of Assembly states that the two committees of quality assurance and feeding system will be strengthened 5o pursue their objectives while therehabilitation and expansion of existing facilities will be extended to other schools that are yet to benefit.

He said that inorder to regain the lost glory of educationin Borno which has served as a centre of learning and scholarship tor over 1000 years, government will provide free and compulsory education especially at primary and secondsry levels to encourage parents to send their children and wards to schools 2here the curricula will give sufficient emphasis to both secular and islamic education.

The governor also said that government will complete all on-going school rehabikitation if nine (9) new schools that have not benefited from the renovation exercise.

Governor Kashim said government will procure students uniforms , laptoos, tablet and desktop computers, instructional materiaks such as textbooks, science equipment, chemicals abd reagents among others.

It will also rehabilitate sports facilities and purchase sportsequipment, more school buses and provide water to 30 hard hit schools as well as train teachers in handling K-YAN machines.

He said government will honour its obkigstions of paying counterpart funds to Universal Basic Education Commission and other development partners inorder to increase access to educstion by school-aged children.

"In the same vein , government will imorove sanitation wnd healthy living among students by providing potable water , modern water system toilets and clinics to create frindly school environment and cleanliness"he said.

Governor Kashim Shettima further said, "government intends to provide school buses to all secondary schools across the state to enhance transportation during sporting activities or in case of sickness".

He said the Teaching Service Board will be strenthened to effectively monitor and suoervise teachers and endure their prompt promotion and punctuality while library and ICT facilities will be provided to all schiols to encourage students imbibe the cukture of learning and research.
