The Deputy Managing Director of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has assured the residentsof Aba that the city will be clean during the Christmas festivities.

Ikpeazu told newsmen in Aba on Monday that the anticipated increase in refuse generation had been planned for to ensure that the city remained clean.

He said that one of the steps taken to make Aba and Abia generally clean during the period was the declaration of Dec. 21 as sanitation day instead of the last Saturday of the month.

”We have acquired a new roll-off which the Deputy Governor, Chief Emeka Ananaba, just handed over to us. We have also engaged more ad-hoc staff.

”In trying to be proactive, we now also added more compactors to assist the buckets so that where you have the receptacles, you will also have the compactors,” Ikpeazu said.

Some residents of the have, however, resorted to burning refuse inside the buckets to create room for more refuse.

One of such persons at Ariaria Market, Mr John Onwuta, said they had to set the refuse bucket on fire to allow for space to throw in more refuse.
