Governor says no opposition exists in his state

The Ogun State governor, Gbenga Daniel, on Monday stressed the need to encourage political opposition, describing it was the “beauty of democracy”.

The governor said this in Abeokuta at an interactive session with the Peer Review Team of the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF).

Mr. Daniel noted that opposition was healthy for the growth of democracy the world over.

“Opposition in Ogun State, however, only exists on the pages of newspapers, as there is none I can readily point to,” he said.

He, however, stressed that the government never muzzled opposition in the state.

He said that the opposition was seemingly nonexistent in Ogun because his government, over the years, had endeared itself to the people through people-oriented projects.
