Again, Abdullahi Has Made UniLorin Proud
In what represents the 9th essay competition he has won as an undergraduate student, a 500L student of the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, Muhammed Abdullahi Tosin, has led 135 other students to emerge the First Prize Winner in a national essay contest organized by the Glorious Islamic Centre (GIC), Ikeja Lagos.
The topic of the essay competition is “The contributions of Islam to the Development of Modern Day Medicine”.
At the award ceremony held at the organizer's base on Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja, on Sunday, December 15, 2013, Abdullahi received an Apple iPad Mini and a plaque alongside the Second Prize Winner, Ishaq Olorunshola, a Medical student of the University of Lagos, and the Third Prize Winner, Alao Idris Ibrahim, another Law student from the University of Ilorin, each of whom received a Samsung Ch@t222 Plus phone and a plaque.
When he was asked how he felt having beat 135 other competitors, Abdullahi said, “I'm ecstatic and profoundly joyous. I dedicate it to everyone who has contributed to my development in life: my supportive family, my very admirable teachers, my mentors and my friends.”
Abdullahi who enjoys the scholarship of the University of Ilorin, has become renowned for winning several national essay competitions and giving Unilorin a formidable representation. He also manages an online resource site, NaijaWritersCoach.com, where he teaches other writers the art of essay writing.
Some of the essay competitions he has won are The Muslim Congress (TMC) Essay Competition (November, 2013), Ramadan Diet Essay Competition (August 2013), Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN) Essay Competition (September 2012) and Crystal Muslim Organization (CMO) Essay Competition (May 2012).
When he was asked what made his entry stand out from others, his response was: “I would say God's mercy, and then persistent practice and learning. The contest organizers said they received ample quality entries. I must be very lucky indeed. I could have missed the prize by a slim chance as well. So I have not arrived. I still have a lot to learn, as I believe life is an institution from which one should keep learning and never graduate.”
He also promised to continue to make his University proud.
