Entrepreneurship & Innovation Centre Celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week In Port Harcourt With Great Expectations

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre (E&I) on November 20 & 21 held a two-day seminar to celebrate the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The seminar which was organised in collaboration with the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) Lagos was also co-powered by, the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA), HP LIFE, and Fortis Mobile Money and attracted huge presence of small and medium scale enterprises and youth cutting across the city.


Speaking on day 1 of the seminar, the General Manager for E&I, Mr Wande Pearse during his welcome address provided an overview of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, introducng participants to the Financial and Business Intelligence 101 workshop series being organised by E&I.

The series, according to his presentation commences in January 2014, and is expected to provide the basics that would help entrepreneurs gain the financial knowledge needed to run their businesses more effectively, and in an exciting way. After various other short presentations, Ms Tami Idoniboye, Marketing and Sales Executive for E&I also presented the company's Free Skill Acquisition Programme for youth in computer operations, catering and tailoring, scheduled to commence in December 2013.


Day 2 of the seminar was on SMEs and Mobile Money. Mr Wande Pearse, following his recap of day 1, also provided an overview to the day's topic, which according to him is essential to helping participants better understand mobile money adoption patterns in Nigeria. The main speaker for the topic, Mr Henry Chukwu of Fortis Mobile Money provided detailed enlightenment on mobile money from a Global, African and Nigerian perspective. He also provided clarification on the products and services of Fortis Mobile Money, urging participants to embrace change and take up job creation opportunities mobile money has provided to Nigerians.


E&I is an initiative with the primary objective of creating sustainable jobs, focusing mainly on entrepreneurship development as a vehicle to improving people's lives and creating wealth in the region. Basically E&I provide entrepreneurial training, business development services and venture capital specially designed for business owners and managers of small and medium-sized enterprises.
